Last year, Mayor Jimmy Davis of Bayonne, N.J. proclaimed it Austin Wright Sr. Day on December 12, 2015. Speaking in the Mayor’s behalf, Bayonne Councilman at Large Mr. Juan Perez stated Austin is very humble. He never bragged about his accomplishments or Championships as he read the Proclamation. Ms. Evette Thomas read the Jersey City Resolution from the City Council of Jersey City, N.J. Also, UWA Black Belt/ Pastor Kenny Thompson Jr. prayed over Wright and gave him a “Prayer Shawl”.
Mr. Austin Wright Sr. has incorporated a Lifetime of Martial Arts knowledge with over 46 years of formal training in the Arts of Okinawan Karate, Japanese Judo Jujitsu Combative Arts, American Kick-Boxing, Chinese Tai Chi Kung Fu and Self-Defense Tactical Strategies.
Last year, Austin Wright Sr. received the Proclamation for 30 years of Youth and Family Community Services. Wright’s winning Karate and UWA Martial Arts Team are Record Breaking in Team Champions. Since 1985, Grand Master Austin Wright Sr. has been established in business. Mr. Wright established the USAF Karate and Martial Arts Club representing Bayonne, NJ under the Isshin-Ryu Karate Lineage (A.O.K.A) then in the early 90’s he opened up a partnership with his dad Hanshi Grandmaster Dennis Wright who is his Sensei (Teacher). It was called the Dojo of Self-Defense. Then in 1996, Austin went solo with his Dad’s blessings. He expanded his efforts and opened up Satellite Schools in Jersey City, Pennsylvania, and Irvington, New Jersey as well as Italy abroad.
In 1997, Wright founded “The Universal Warrior Arts” American Martial Arts System and published a book in 2002. His path or road to publication was famous because of Icon Movie Star and Actor Cary Tagawa, the Mortal Combat nemesis. Grand Master Austin promoted Annual Regional Karate Tournament for St. Jude’s Children’s and coined the phrase “Fighting for A Cure”. He was known as a “Superb Fighting Technician” won numerous State, National and International World Grand Championships in various categories. Wright is known as a Fierce yet Humble Warrior by his Competitors quotes his Sensei (Teacher/Coach) Hanshi Dennis A. Wright.
Grand Master Austin Wright Sr. was voted and named the “Multi Discipline Grand Master of the Decade by Dr. Jim Thomas and the Alliance at the USA Hall of Fame, then he was nominated for the 11th year in a row as the N.J. State Director of the U.S. National Martial Arts Team Alliance (www.usnmat.net).

Last year, Ms. Priscilla Wright who is Grandmaster Wright’s daughter was the Master of Ceremony. She gave her dad a great speech about Love, Passion and Respect. She said her dad is her hero and she thanked him for motivating her and her brother, Austin Wright Jr. Priscilla stated, “My dad takes the ordinary kids and makes extraordinary kids while building confidence. Most students become champions.”
Also Priscilla Wright credits her dad (Grandmaster Wright) for her and her brother Austin Wright Jr. winning the National and International Karate Championships under his coaching and training. Grandmaster Austin states, “The element of surprise is not in the size of a man or woman; but in the technique, delivery and strategy.” Wright’s motto states: “It’s about position to transition, to take down, K.O or submission.”
