Recently, Team Wright’s Black Belts competed at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Leading the way at the “Fight for Cancer” International Black Belt Championship was York Watson-Byrd’s tenacity and skills which placed him 1st in Kumite (fighting) and Forms, 2nd in the Weapons division, bringing home 2 gold medals and one silver to Universal Warrior Mixed Martial Arts Academy’s Main Headquarters, based in Bayonne, New Jersey. York out-kicked, out-punched and out-shouted his entire division!
Kenneth Jackson Jr. and Keith Hampton were also winners. They placed in Weapons, Kumite and Forms. Despite being a huge event for Black Belts, Team Wright was victorious against their formidable opponents.
The Team’s Head Coach and the New Jersey State Director for the US National Martial Arts Team Alliance has been successful for the last 2 decades by combining his traditional Isshin Ryu Karate, Japanese Jujutsu, Chinese Kung Fu and American Kick Boxing, known as Universal Warrior Martial Arts. His concepts and practical approach continues to teach modern day martial arts, which has been a practical approach to understanding street survival, self-defense and bully safety.
During the Karate Tournament, Grand Master Hanshi Austin Wright Sr. received an Appreciation Award from Grandmaster Giaccobe from Tang Soo Do for Supporting The FIGHT for Cancer for the past 3 decades at the 2016 Internationals. Congratulations to Team Wright NJ of Universal Warrior Mixed Martial Arts…The Undisputed 2016 Black Belt National Karate Champs!!
