Recently, Wright’s Universal Warrior Mixed Martial Arts School of Champions from Bayonne and Jersey City NJ out kicked, outpunched and outshouted (kiai) their formidable opponents to win numerous divisions in kumite (sparring), weapons (traditional) and kata (forms) division all ages at the Golden Rule Isshin Ryu Karate Tournament held in Washington, N.J. It was action packed event. The Tournament Director was Master Paul Kildiff 7th Dan in Isshin-Ryu Karate. Grandmaster’s Hanshi Ralph Passero 9th A.O.K.A. and Master Doug King, Grand Master Vitale, The Red Dragons Grand Master Al Smith Jr., Grand Master Reggie “The Snake” Goode and Bayonne’s Grand Master Austin Wright Sr. were all in attendance.
The highlight of the evening was when York Byrd Watson won the Black Belt Grand Championship Teens Division (Ages 15, 16 &17). York dominated most of his opponents with hook kicks, crescent kicks, jumping aerial kicks, back hands and reverse punches.
Following Winners:
York Bryd Watson, 2nd Dan Black Belt, (15 to 17 year old) Teen Black Belt Division took 1st place in Kumite (Sparring) and 3rd in Forms. He was Grand Champion Winner in the Kumite Division overall.
Kenneth Jackson, 4th Dan Black Belt, took 1st place in the 18-34 year old Kumite (Sparring) Divison, 1st in the Weapons Division and 4th in the Kata Division.
Garen Asatryan, 1st Dan Black Belt, took 3rd in the Over 35 Black Belt Division.
Carissa Reyes, took 1st place in the Green Belt Kumite (Sparring) Female Division from Our UWA Jersey City Academy.
Roman Torres, 7 year old Orange Belt, took 2nd place and did an outstanding job losing a close match 3-2 for 1st place. He was awarded the Green Belt after the Tournament.
Grant Asatryan, won the Green Belt Kids Division. He placed 1st in Kumite (Sparring) out of 20 kids competing in his Division.
This year (2016) Austin Wright Sr. who is the President of UWA Martial Arts Federation has been celebrating his 45th year in Martial Arts and 30th years in the Martial Arts Industry.
All Students personally are trained by Certified Black Belt Instructors and Supervised by Head Coach Austin Wright Sr. at 250 Broadway, (Corner of 10th Street), Main HQ’s Bayonne, NJ and 1683 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ. Students are members of the UWA Martial Arts Federation of America and U.S. National Martial Arts Team “Alliance”. In attendance to help Coach was Sempei Kenneth Jackson Sr., 2nd Dan, who is presently working on his 3rd Dan (Sensei) Rank.
Also, Team Wright’s International World Grand Champion Austin Wright was recently inducted in (2) Martial Arts World Hall of Fames. 1st in Atlantic City with Action Martial Arts Magazine inducted by Master Allen Goldberg and 2nd by Dr. Jim Thomas at the USA Hall of Fame in Flushing, NY.
