On Saturday June 22, 2013, Team Wright’s Academy of Champions attended the 1st Annual Statue of Liberty Open Tournament held at the Boys & Girls Club in Jersey City, NJ. This tournament was promoted by Master Dennis “Sup” Burgess and Kyoshi Jonas Nunez Jr. who is the PKF President and America’s Finest Mixed Martial Arts Academy Director. The tournament was in memory of the late Grand Master Ron Jeter and the late Grand Master Aaron Banks. At the championship, the U.S. National Martial Arts, N.J Branch “Alliance” Team Members Samir O’Neill, York Watson and Jamal Bernard all dominated and won 1st Place in their Point Sparring and Continuous Sparring Divisions. York Watson received 1st place in Continuous Full Contact Sparring, 1st Place in Kata (Forms) and 3rd Place in Weapons. Next, Samir O’Neill received 1st Place in Point Sparring and 3rd Place in Forms. Finally, Jamal Bernard received 1st Place in Point Sparring which was based on Semi Contact Rules.
